Free Plain Text QR Code Generator
Encode any text into a QR code. Coupon codes, serial numbers, Wi-Fi passwords, event details, instructions — any information you want someone to access with a scan. No URL required.
What Is a Text QR Code?
A text QR code stores plain text directly in the code pattern. When scanned, the text appears on the user's screen — no internet connection needed, no website required.
This is different from a URL QR code. A text QR code doesn't open a browser. It just displays the text. Simple, offline, permanent.
What Can You Encode as Text?
- Coupon codes — "SAVE20" displayed instantly, no landing page needed
- Serial numbers — scan to reveal product serial or warranty code
- Instructions — short setup guides, assembly notes, dosage information
- Event details — date, time, location, dress code — all in one scan
- Wi-Fi passwords — alternative to the WiFi content type if you want simpler output
- Internal reference codes — inventory IDs, lot numbers, tracking references
- Hidden messages — Easter eggs, scavenger hunts, surprise reveals

Text QR codes work offline and never expire. They encode the text directly, so no server or internet connection is needed to read them.
Text Length and QR Code Size
The more text you encode, the denser (more complex) the QR code becomes. Denser codes need to be printed larger to stay scannable.
General guidelines:
- Up to 100 characters — standard size, easy to scan
- 100-300 characters — medium density, print at least 3cm (1.2in)
- 300-500 characters — high density, print at least 5cm (2in)
- 500+ characters — very dense, may have scan issues at small sizes
For long text, consider linking to a web page instead. URL QR codes are simpler and more reliable for large amounts of content.
